With the decline of the Mughal Empire, Hyderabad emerged as the cultural center of India. In 1857, with the fall of Delhi, several performing artists migrated to the city mostly comprising of people from the North and Western regions. This led to the amalgamation of both the region's culture, languages, and religion. This further led to the coexistence of Hindus and Muslims and the enrichment of their traditions.
This intermingling has caused the celebration of a variety of festivals in harmony such as Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Eid ul-Fitr, Bonalu, etc. In fact, the state has declared Telugu and Urdu as the official language of Telangana.
Further, in terms of the dress up, there is the influence of both South Asian and Muslims, as the women wear Salwar Kameez, hijab and Burqa, men, on the other hand, wear Kurta Pajama and Sherwani. Though western-style dress up is also quite prominent among the youth.
Under the regime of Nizams, many literary reforms took place and this is the reason why Hyderabad celebrated its annual literary festival called the Hyderabad Literature Festival with great zeal and zest. Urdu Ghazals, Diwan Poetry all are performed with creativity.
Education has played an important role in Hyderabad and has the biggest public State Central library established since 1891. British Library and Sundarayya Vignana Kendram are some of the famous libraries.
Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi are some important dance styles of this region. As the Telugu Film Industry being the second largest after Bollywood is situated in Hyderabad, Music, and movies are quite popular along with qawwali.
The branches of Deccan style painting known as the Golconda and Hyderabad paintings are also very popular and unique.
The dishes are mouth-watering in Hyderabad with Hyderabadi Haleem to Hyderabadi Biryani, it is difficult to resist the food. It is a combination of Arabic and Mughalai cuisine. The tradition of a bakery is also very strong in Hyderabad, one can see numerous bakeries along the roads, however, Karachi bakery being the famous out of all.
