It is a house to please your eyes and belly, Admire the architecture and take a toast for visiting Delhi!!
The seat of the government, Delhi has been the capital city for many kingdoms and empires. However, it is not just the capital city but also known popularly as the heart of the nation. With its enriching and enticing heritage, culture and religious diversity, Delhi is continuously developing and coping with time.
Delhi is nonetheless divided into Old Delhi and New Delhi. Though there is no thin line demarcating it but the whole essence changes when one visits the places. Whereas the Old Delhi or popularly known as the Purani Delhi has a Mughal essence to its ambiance, the New Delhi is reflecting the British essence and is the main home for the Indian government.
Digging further, Old Delhi was initially known as Shahjahanabad, founded in 1639 by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan after the death of his beloved wife. From 1638 to 1649, major Mughal structures were built, including the famous Lal Qila (Red Fort) and Chandni Chowk, a first wholesale marketplace where one can get anything and everything. However, after 1857 communal riots and fall of Mughals the capital was shifted to Calcutta by the Britishers. It was in 1931, that Lutyens Delhi (New Delhi) became the capital of India.
Moreover, New Delhi as we say Lutyens Delhi was the architectural beauty designed by Edwin Lutyens and hence named after him. It has amazing buildings and UNESCO Sites which will make anyone awestruck. However, the traffic is quite chaotic here but it does not take away the beauty of this place.
